“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.”
– Matthew 25:35
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, service to others is paramount to our mission and purpose. The importance of outreach to the poor in Matthew 25 underscores the central message of Jesus’ ministry, which is one of love, mercy and social justice. Through outreach to others, we demonstrate our love for God and commitment to living out the values of the Kingdom of Heaven.
We are profoundly thankful for all members of our Volunteer Outreach Team who dedicate their time and talents to helping the less fortunate in our city under the direction of our Director of Outreach, Dennis Minichello. Some of their good works include:
- Cooking and serving meals monthly at Sarah’s Circle (an overnight shelter for homeless women in the Uptown neighborhood), as well as at the Lincoln Park Community Shelter (a short term residential facility for training and equipping residents for re-entry into productive lives). The volunteers also assist in distributing food at Nourishing Hope (formerly Lakeview Pantry).
- Cooking and serving meals at our annual Saint Joseph’s Table in March
- Running our annual Back to school backpack drive
- Organizing a Fall Coat Drive
- Volunteering with the Little Sisters of the Poor at their annual wine tasting fundraiser in September.
- Assisting with Catholic Charities Toy Drive
- Assisting our partner Versiti with 4 Blood Drives every year
Come join us and be a part of a very special mission within our parish. Contact Director Dennis Minichello for more information at [email protected].
